California Casualty Celebrates Educators that Make a Difference
California Casualty proudly joined the NEA Foundation in congratulating the recipients of one of public education’s most prestigious awards: the 2018 California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence. San Mateo, CA, February 13, 2018 – California Casualty was honored to sponsor and participate in the NEA Foundation’s 2018 Salute to Excellence in Education Gala held February 9 in Washington, D.C.
California Casualty CEO Beau Brown helped present the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence to the 38 educators chosen by their NEA state affiliates for the recognition.
The awards highlight educators from around the country who shine in their schools, communities and their own learning. They advocate for each other, the profession and students, and they embrace the diversity of their communities and wider world.
The most anticipated moment of the evening was when Bobbie Cavnar, 12th grade language arts educator from Belmont, North Carolina, received $25,000 as the NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence top honor.
“These outstanding educators put heart and soul into supporting students and improving the profession,” said Harriet Sanford, NEA Foundation President and CEO. “We deeply appreciate California Casualty’s partnership in recognizing educators across the country.”
“We are glad to have the chance to show our respect and appreciation for the work of public school educators each year,” said Beau Brown, California Casualty CEO. “We applaud the great work of the California Casualty awardees.”
Brian Goodman, California Casualty Field Relations Manager, said he and others attending were humbled by the amazing dedication of the educators being honored. “Many of us representing California Casualty were moved to tears by their stories.”
Each California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence awardee’s school received $650.
The NEA Foundation and the National Education Association jointly present the awards.
